Winter Games for Kids

kids-and-snowmanWhen it’s too cold to play outside, kids need something to keep them occupied. Playing same old games indoors and outdoors can make them irritated. Coming up with new winter games can be a challenge for parents and teachers at school if kids have already played the games you’ve suggested. To overcome this dilemma, check out these fun games for kids which will make them jump up in their seats with joy.

Outdoor Games

Clear the Obstacles
Make 10 snowballs of about two ft and 5 ft tall away from each other. Divide everyone into two groups and choose a leader in each group. Each team jumps over the obstacles while following their leader. The other team checks if no one is cheating and counts how many players finished jumping over all the 10 obstacles. The team with the highest score wins.

Write Names in the Snow
Take your kids outside once you’ve got your gloves, hats, coats, scarves, and boots ready. Stand in the snow and drag your feet across the snow. Write your name in the snow as you are dragging your feet in it. Once you’re done, go to your room and check out your name in the snow. This exciting game is a great way to stay warm even when there’s snow outside, as there’s lot of physical activity involved in it.

Colored Snow
Take two spray bottles and two squeeze bottles, and fill it up with four different colored water. You can use food colors to make the mix. Take the bottles out in the snow. Try to make various shapes and figures out of snow. You can also make a big circle in the snow and set it as a target. Stand 5-10 ft away from the target and try to spray inside the target. Take turns and see who can make the target first.

Rollerblade
If it’s too cold outside, take your kids to the nearest park or a beach, and spend the day outside rollerblading. Rollerblades help to keep your kids physically active while you can get a good workout as well. Challenge your kids to go faster than you can and have some fun in the winter sun. But before you go ahead with this activity, make sure you have all your safety gears on.

Indoor Games

Ghost in the Dark
This game is played in a group of 4―5 kids. One of the players will be the ghost while the others are victims. Find a base where the ghost will stand, and count, “1 o’clock, 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock, …12 o’clock.” As the ghost counts, the victims try to find a place to hide. Once the ghost has counted till 12, he/she shouts ‘midnight’, which means that the ghost will now find “the victims to kill”. Meanwhile, the victims try to run to the base before the ghost gets a chance to catch them. If the ghost catches someone, the ghost wins the game, and the person caught will be the next ghost.

Green Light/Red Light
For this game, one person plays a ‘stop light’ and the other players stand about 20 ft. away from the light. The game begins with the stop light saying green light, to which all the kids move towards him/her slowly. A few seconds later, the stop light yells red light, and the players have to stay still in their places. Anyone caught walking will be out of the game. The game continues till the last player remains.

Scavenger Hunt
Treasure hunt games are never out boring as they are one of the best games. Prepare a series of clues where one clue leads to another. These clues can be hidden in the kitchen cabinets, cushion covers, under the cookie jar, or anywhere inside the bathrooms. Make picture clues or maps for the kids to make the scavenger hunt more interesting. If they get stuck and can’t figure out the next clue, you can mention ‘getting warmer’ or ‘getting colder’ hints. Decide what prizes you want to keep for the one who solves the mystery first.

Guess Who
To play this game, you’ll need magazines, a box, 3 x 5 index cards, and glue. Find pictures of animals, cereal boxes, cartoon characters and movies. Cut the pictures and glue them on different 3 x 5 cards. Take the box and mix all the index cards in it. Pick one card at a time and try to describe the picture without saying it aloud. Let’s see how long your friends take to guess what that picture is. Take turns while playing the game.

Children never get tired of playing new and innovative games. It’s for you to decide whether you want to stay outside in the snow and occupy yourself with your kids, or get comfortable inside the house and play the games. Whatever you decide to do, have fun while playing these games and develop your child’s intellect. So get cozy with your kids this winter and have fun!

Fun Games to Play with Your Girlfriend

Spending quality time with your girlfriend is top priority for her (and it should be for you as well). Although you don’t necessarily need to be “doing” something every time, sitting idly, blowing time doesn’t seem “fun”, at times. There are many times when you just can’t find words or topics to discuss with your girlfriend over the phone. Although some people may find it lame, but it’s like, you really can’t help it, can you? I mean, we all have our moments, and at times, these moments can bring about silence for some. Now, if you are getting confused about my rambling here, then let me make it clear for you. You, the boyfriend, can’t find interesting topics to talk about with a girl (hopefully your girlfriend) and need some desperate help to keep her entertained. What next? How about some interesting games to play with your girlfriend?

There can be times when she’s at school, work, or at home and you guys can’t meet at that moment. Or how about this, you two are together, but haven’t really made a decision to do something. What then? Wouldn’t you want to make things a bit more interesting? I’m going to assume that the answer is a ‘yes’ and move on. For one of those days when you just can’t think of anything else to do, try our suggestions to spend quality time together.

Play Games on the Phone

Because of unavoidable distance between both of you, perhaps she’s stuck in a family thing, grounded at home, or some other reason, you can’t meet at that particular hour. What is an alternative to not meeting: talking on the cell phone. You can definitely try some of our suggestions and ideas; and it won’t cost you a dime (if you have enough minutes left on your phone). Apart from that, these fun things for couples to do on the cell phone will make you feel a lot closer than you actually are.

Naughty Truth or Dare
This is no normal truth or dare; it’s naughty truth or dare on the phone. Okay, didn’t mean to make it sound serious, because this game is for fun purposes. Not just a party game, you can have a good list of truth or dare questions for one another and keep a score. Whoever answers and completes these questions, wins. Oh, and the other one has to get the winner a nice present. Now when I add “naughty” in the mix, you know exactly what can happen. The sky’s actually the limit. You can ask intimate questions and have the other person do sexy dares (but be sure not to go overboard). Try them out. You might be surprised as to how much fun this game can be.

Would You Rather…
This is more of a conversational game, so that’s why I selected it as one of our exciting games. What you have to do is ask your girlfriend a series of precarious questions (it’ll be fun if you asked questions in turn). Let me give you examples:
Would you rather always get first dibs or the last laugh?
Would you rather eat a shot glass full of live wasps or eat a shot glass?
Would you rather have a kangaroo or koala as your pet?
Would you rather be forgotten or hatefully remembered?
Would you rather be able to stop time or fly?
This game is a good way to get to know one another on a better level. Ask questions that you’ve always wanted to, but never could. It will be a good break for you both and the time will pass quickly.

Prank Calls
Now before you get ahead of yourself, take a few steps back and first read. I am not asking you to make prank calls on people. What I mean to say here is, the prank calls will be between you two. You will tell each other what would you say or do while making a pretend prank call on someone. Giggles and laughter are sure to follow with this game.

Play Games While Texting

If she’s hanging out with her friends, babysitting a kid, or stuck at a family occasion, and you can’t find an opportunity to speak to her, what can you do about it? How about playing a game through text messages? It’s a great way to be in contact, have some laughs, and really connect with one another.

20 Questions
It’s a very popular game where you get to ask 20 questions to one another and spend some time getting to know one another. You don’t even have to think or rehearse or write about these 20 questions before both of you play. You can start with any random questions to ask your girlfriend and go from there. Once you’ve asked your questions, she can do the same. So, are you ready?

Poem Time
This a fun game to play that tests both your creative side. Pick any poem that both of you are familiar with like ‘Rose are red…’ or ‘If you forgot me…’ and text her this: Be creative and add a line to it. So first, you will text her ‘Roses are red’ and then she has to reply in her own way. It’s one of the best activity that will help you spend quality time with her and come closer.

Message in a Book
Both of you will take a book, magazine, or newspaper (one each) and sit a bit farther away from one another. Take a pencil (because we don’t want to ruin a book) and circle letters in. Now the fun part is, instead of writing each other love notes, you will circle the words and create sentences. Once you are done, exchange the books and read the message. Isn’t that romantic!

These were some of the inexpensive and innovative ways to spend time with your girlfriend. As you play these fun games, you will eventually come up with new games as well. Play one or all of them. Oh and if you have any fun games to play with your girlfriend, do let us know about it as well. More games definitely means more fun.

Fun Games for Adults

All work and no play, makes your life boring and mundane. Games are not just meant for kids. Games at a weekend party provide a refreshing change and a rejuvenating experience. Games for adults come in all shapes and sizes and importantly there’s never a question of winning or losing. These games will revive the missing element of fun and excitement in your life. So loosen up your ties, roll up your sleeves and get ready for an evening of rollicking laughter.

Say the Name
Let me warn you, this will get you drunk, so designate a responsible driver. Make your drinks and begin the game with the name of a famous person. Suppose the name is ‘Bill Gates’, then the next person will say the next name starting with ‘G’. Suppose the next person says, ‘Gerard Butler’, the one after him/her will say the name beginning with ‘B’. The game basically, continues with first letter of the last name. The fun part of the game is where a participant cannot think of a name. What happens then? Then, the participant is supposed to keep on drinking till he/she thinks of name. After so much of alcohol, thinking is barely possible and that’s when the fun starts!

Watch my Back
It’s raining outside, the TV’s got slurred reception, you can’t step out and evening’s getting boring more than what you had imagined. This is game strictly meant for couples. Your partner will try to write a really intimate and a sexual message on your back, while you try to figure it out. If you get it right, you can ask for a favor (unleash your imagination!), that your partner can’t deny. But if you get it wrong, your partner can ask for whatever was written on the back, for hours and hours!!

Games on Platter
The first game is called the ‘Bubble Blow’ race. Set out paper plates in front of a circle of participants. Place a gum on each plate and then bury those pieces with dollops and dollops of whipped cream. Each participant, has to dig out the chewing gum and blow a bubble. The fun part is, they can use their hands all the while! Another game that you can play is, ‘Penny Wise’. For this game distribute 20 pennies to each participant and make them sit in a circle. The first person, begins with saying something that he/she hasn’t done. For example, ‘I haven’t done rock climbing’. If the others agree, they will give a penny to that person. Everybody gets a turn to say what they haven’t done. At the end of the game, the winner is the one who rakes in the moolah!

Board Games
There is no dearth of board games in this world! Fun board games like pictionary, the pictorial dumb charade, survivor, needless to mention it’s like the hit TV-show, Catch Phrase, which keeps you on your tenterhooks and lastly the classic, pirates of the Caribbean DVD game are enough to keep you occupied all night long. These games can be bought online or in any retail game shop.
Fun party games that involve consuming alcohol, should be played with extra care. Playing games allows your mind to think differently. Out of the box thinking is at its peak when it’s time to play. Game on!

Games for Kids Under 5

Keeping toddlers occupied can be a daunting task for any parent. Activities and games are the best option to keep your child busy and can also be a learning experience at the same time. Games help kids to enhance their creativity, thinking skills and give them the much-needed recreation from their day-to-day activities.

Children under the age of 5 are extremely curious and inquisitive about the surroundings. The best way to help them learn and garner knowledge is by teaching them the same by means of various recreational activities. While their love for playing and having fun will never subside, this is the best way to make sure that the games your kids play is a learning experience too.

Tag

Tag is a game where you’ll definitely have to do quite a bit of running. In this game, one person is selected as ‘it’, and he/she has to chase the other players within a decided area. Once the person who is marked as ‘it’ succeeds in chasing and touching (tagging) any one of the other players, the tag is transferred to that player who now becomes ‘it’. The new tagged player should now chase other players and follow the same rules.

Customized Treasure Hunt

Since children below the age of 5 are not used to formation of complete sentence, it will be tough for them to comprehend complex clues. The easier way to do that is by forming clues that will be suitable for their age. For example, a clue can include “C for Cat, D for?” with a picture of a drawer below it. This will make it easier for the children to guess the word and where to find the next clue.

Blocks

This is a game to improve a child’s vocabulary and the way they analyze different shapes and sizes. The game can be modified according to the child’s needs. If the blocks are of alphabets, you can provide a word to the child and ask him/her form the same with the help of the blocks. If the blocks are of varying size and shapes, ask your kid to put the blocks into the respective slots. You can include various colors of the blocks and their identification also into play.

Board Games

Although not a physical activity, any board game such as Snakes and Ladders or the one ones involving knowing of alphabets and numbers, definitely rate high on the fun quotient. If your kid has recently learned his/her alphabets and numbers, these games will help them practice and perfect the letters and numbers without getting bored.
Games that involve physical and brain training and giving them a fun twist is always a hit among kids of all ages. The aforementioned games will definitely help kids below 5 years of age in more than one way. Keep modifying these activities that suiting the occasion and your child’s liking. Have fun!
